The 1955 Chevrolet (sometimes referred to as' 55 Chevy ) is a car made by Chevrolet in 1955. It is considered a major turning point for manufacturers and success. It is available in three models: 150, 210, and Bel Air.

The Chevy '55 is the first successful Chevrolet with an optional V8 engine. Chevrolet had previously produced cars with the V8 in 1918 (Chevrolet Series D), which uses 36-horsepower and 288-cubic inches V8, but remained in production for only a year. In 1955, Chevrolet decided to customize its new car with a valve valve V8 engine design, similar to the 1948 Oldsmobile "Rocket 88" V8 engine. The new 265-cubic-inch overhead valve V8 is designed to be smaller, lighter, and more powerful than the previous V8 in the automotive industry.

The new "little block" in '55 Chevy has a problem. Some problems come with cracked pistons, no integrated oil filters, and the factory can only add bypass externally - the owner must select this external oil filter. Filters are also available as dealer-installed options. Those who do not order machines with "oil filter options" deal with high-frequency oil changes. This is corrected for next year when a full flow oil filter system is added to the engine. The new V8 small blocks are relatively easy to maintain but to maintain the performance and mileage levels required spark plugs and high ignition points to be replaced regularly. The Chevy V8 small block became so popular that Chevrolet still sells it today as a replacement replacement or better known as a "crate machine". There have been various changes made to the machine to modernize since its introduction in 1954 but the basic design of the original 265 remains in place.

Body Design

In addition, Chevrolet change the body design drastically. It has smooth straight panels on the sides and bonnet, wrapping glass in the windshield, and triangular tail lights jutted out. And this new look, combined with new strengths and techniques, makes '55 instant hit with public purchases and critical success.

The "shoe-box" body style and popular car chassis were brought to 1956 (with changes in some of the front and back aesthetics and lower body lines), and then brought to 1957 (where the body was extended several inches in aesthetic changes behind and more drastically made).

Chevrolet maintains the same body and chassis for the 1955, 56, and 57 models. These years are highly sought after by collectors and fans, and are often called the "tri-toddler" nicknames. The nickname "tri-toddler" was given because there were three model years in the 1950s.

Options and cut

The 1955 Chevrolet also offers many other first-hand experiences for Chevrolet, including converting from 6 volts into a 12 volt electric system. Series 55 offers new options such as air conditioning, power windows, power seats, power steering and power brakes. Other options include an automatic light dimmer, a door hand protector, a bumper protector and a "magic-bar" radio. So many new options are available, some call the car a "Chevy little Cadillac." Never before has so many options offered for cars in the field of low prices.

The 55th highest trim offer is Bel-Air, which has chrome over 150 or 210. The Bel-Air and 210 can be purchased with posts between front and rear passenger windows, or no posts. Without the post it was known as the "Hardtop," which came in only two doors and was not offered on top of a four-door hard until 1956. The two-door hardtop is also known as "Sport Coupe." Since the Sport Coupe does not have a post between two side windows, it has a slightly shorter roof and a longer rear deck and is available with Bel-Air trim or 210. Chevy also offers convertibles, with the same shorter and longer roof. rear deck as a sports coupe, and it's offered on Bel-Air trim only.

1955 also saw the introduction of Bel Air Nomad, a two-door station wagon featuring borderless glass doors and side windows elongated. The unique roof design of Nomad comes straight from the 1955 Corvette Nomad, a "dream car" designed to be displayed at the car show as a concept sports wagon. Though regarded as one of the most beautiful station wagon designs of the Fifties, Nomad sold poorly, partly because of its price (one of the most expensive models in the Bel Air line) and a lack of four doors. Also Nomad's two-tailed tailgate design is vulnerable to allowing excessive rainwater leaks to the inside.

Series '55 offers a variety of colors. One solid color, which is standard for 150, can be owned for 210 or Bel Air... or nineteen different two-tone color combinations are also available.

Together with the Synchro-Mesh three-speed transmission installed in the standard column, buyers of the '55 Chevy can specify an optional Overdrive unit to bypass it, or a fully automatic two-speed Powerglide transmission. Although most of everything was new in 1955 to Chevrolet, the reliable Powerglide is largely unchanged from '54.

Machine

The following machines are available in Chevrolet 1955:

  • OHV Inline 6 cylinder: 235 cubic inches, 135 brake horsepower (SAE)
  • OHV V8: 265 cubic inches, 162 brake horsepower (SAE)
  • OHV V8: 265 cubic inches, 180 brake horsepower (SAE), also known as "Power Pack" engine
  • OHV V8: 265 cubic inches, 195 brake horsepower (SAE), year-end model, known as "Super Power Pack"

265 is new for 1955, and it is the first V8 available in Chevrolet since 1918 Model "D" is offered. The car did not sell for the price during the upcoming recession, so Chevy returned to the inline OHV 4-cylinder engine until 1929 when the Chevy switched to an inline 6-cylinder engine. These six reliable cylinders will empower chevy cars until 1955 and are known as "six-bolt furnaces". However, the new 265 V-8 in 1955 offered a strength of over six, and weighed less than 100 pounds.

265 was a huge success, and was installed for most Chevrolet cars for decades in various cubic-inch displays. This is usually referred to as the "Chevy Small Block".
