Gas Safe List is the official gas registration agency for the United Kingdom, Isle of Man and Guernsey, designated by the relevant Health and Safety Authority for each area. By law all gas engineers must be on the Secure Gas List.
The Gas Safe Register replaced CORGI as the gas registration agency in the UK and the Isle of Man on April 1, 2009 and Northern Ireland and Guernsey on 1 April 2010.
The purpose of the Safe Register Gas is to protect people from unsafe gas work. This does this in two main ways, operating the Register itself for example. ensure that the list of competent and qualified engineers is accurate and up-to-date, checks the work of engineers registered with Gas Safe and investigates reports of illegal gas work. The second area is a public awareness campaign to raise awareness about gas security issues.

Changes from CORGI to Gas Safe Register
A 2006 review by the Health and Safety Executive identified a 'case for change' in the CORGI scheme that has registered gas installers since 1991. In a competitive tender, Capita was appointed to remodel the scheme and operate it for 10 years from April 2009.
