The machine family OM617 is a direct-5 diesel engine from Mercedes-Benz used in the 1970s and 1980s. This is a direct development of straight-4 OM616. It was sold in vehicles from 1974 to 1991. OM617 is considered one of the most powerful engines ever produced with engines often reaching over 1,000,000 km without being rebuilt and was one of the main reasons for Mercedes' popularity in North America in the 1980s , because it was strong and reliable compared to other automotive diesel engines of the time. It is also a very popular choice for the use of alternative fuels, especially vegetable oils and straight biodiesel or waste, although the use of these fuels can cause engine damage over time if not processed properly before use.

OM617 Natural Sucked

Basically OM616 with an extra cylinder, it debuted in 1974 with a W115 chassis. Bore is 91.0mm and stroke 92.4mm. It was originally 80 PS (79 hp/59 kW.) Bosch MW injection pump is inline used, which has a fly-class governor and a vacuum cover. The machine had previously used pneumatic governors, and "gorilla knob" to start and shut down the engine. The North American machine has an ADA device with a pump that restricts fuel at high altitudes to prevent smoking with less dense air. The new engine block after.910 has an oil filter housing mounted on the back, with a combined full flow and cut off filter elements. In August 1978 the precombustion spaces were updated to resemble the new OM617A design for more whirls and more efficient combustion. Engine capacity is lowered to 2998 cc to comply with European machine tax laws by changing bore to 90.9 mm. September 1979 saw a new camshaft with larger lift valves allowing air and flue gas to have less resistance. The power output increases to 88 PS (87 hp/65 kW). The torque remains at 172 Nm (126 lb/ft.) @ 2400 rpm. In November 1980, the MW-style injection pump was replaced with the M-type for a non-North American machine. The machine was equipped with a cable-type cable-loop type until 1980 when it was replaced by a more reliable type of pencil plug (this has been used in OM617A since 1978). Vehicles sold to the North American market are equipped with exhaust gas recirculation equipment.

OM617A Turbocharged

Year 1976 saw the engine adapted to use turbocharger. The 190hp OM617LA is mounted on the C111-IID test vehicle, and sets the world's 16 ground speed and endurance at the Nardo test facility in Italy. In 1978 the machine was upgraded again to 230hp and installed in C111-IIID and solved 9 further notes. Modifications to production machinery include oil squirters to cool the bottom of the piston; pistons with oil channels; stronger connecting rods; a saturated valve filled valve and a stronger hardened crankshaft nitride. Also a flattened oil pump with a separate chain drive is installed because turbocharger lubrication requires a higher flow. The Bosch MW injection pump is calibrated to produce a larger fuel and is equipped with an ALDA device that prevents excess fuel until the turbocharger begins to provide push pressure. The pencil foam is provided in all OM617A machines.

OM617.950

In 1978, the OM617.950 was mated to the Mercedes-Benz W116 to produce the 300SD North American market, the world's first production turbodiesel sedan. This engine prioritizes the introduction of tighter emission laws, so it does not fit the EGR. The initial power is 111 hp/82 kW @ 4200 rpm, torque 228Ã, Nm (168 lb/ft.) @ 2400 rpm. From October 1979 - 121 hp/89 kW @ 4350 rpm, torque 230Ã, Nm (170 lb/ft.) @ 2400 rpm.

Aplikasi:

  • 300SD Turbo 1978-1980

OM617.951

The951 was introduced for 1981 and replaced 2998 cc, using 90.9 mm bore and 92.4 mm stroke. The initial power is 121 hp/89 kW @ 4350 rpm, torque of 230 Nm (170 lb/ft.) @ 2400 rpm. From August 1984 - 125 hp/92 kW @ 4350 rpm, torque 250Ã, Nm (184 lb/ft.) @ 2400 rpm. Vehicles sold to the North American market are equipped with EGR equipment.

OM617.952

The.952 is identical to .951 apart from minor changes to fit the chassis 123 North America. It was also fitted to the W123 European market wagon, 300TD. It is the only OM617 turbocharged fitted to W123 Europe. The initial power is 121 hp/89 kW @ 4350 rpm, torque of 230 Nm (170 lb/ft.) @ 2400 rpm. From October 1982 - 125 hp/92 kW @ 4350 rpm, torque 250Ã, Nm (184 lb/ft.) @ 2400 rpm. Vehicles sold to the North American market are equipped with EGR equipment.
