Philip Covarrubias is a Colorado politician and member of the Colorado House of Representatives from the 56th District, which covers parts of Arapahoe and Adams, including the Aurora community, Bennett, Brick Center, Brighton, Byers, Comanche Creek, Commerce City , Deer Trail, Lochbuie, Peoria, Strasburg, Thornton, Todd Creek, and Watkins. She serves Finance and Health, Insurance & amp; Environment committee.
Covarrubias, a Republican, lives in Brighton. He founded an excavation and construction company working on the FasTracks project that connects downtown Denver to Denver International Airport, and currently works as a foreman for Xcel Energy. He is a Mexican-American and one of the founders of Hispanic Contractors from Colorado; after experiencing racial discrimination while growing up, he is part of the Sociedad Proteccion Mutua De Trabajadores Unidos.

Selection
Covarrubias was first elected to office in 2016. In the Republican party that year, he faced no opposition. In elections, he won the race, winning 58.60% of the vote against a Democratic candidate and one Libertarian candidate.

Legislative position
Covarrubias support Colorado HB17-1242, putting the measure on a November 2017 Colorado vote calling on voters to approve an increase in sales tax to improve transport infrastructure.
As opposed to HB17-1372, a bill mandating that oil and gas companies provide the public with maps of flowlines, filibustered Covarrubias and help defeat the bills.
Japanese interning comment
In March 2017, commenting on Japanese-American reconnaissance, Covarrubias said that in the "heat of the battle", "no time to ask and find out who the citizens are and who does not." In later interviews, Covarrubias said he was "sorry that [the arrangement] was part of our history" and that "under no circumstances, regardless of who they are, people should be treated in a way that people treat during World War II Periods.
