Technology

In the EcoShale Process In-Capsule Red Leaf Process, the hot gas is generated by the combustion of natural gas or pyrolysis gas. The resulting hot gas is then circulated through the shale of oil using a set of parallel pipes. Heat is transferred to shale through the pipe wall rather than injected directly into the ruins, thus avoiding dilution of hydrocarbon products with heating gas. Oil debris debris is enclosed by a cheap retaining structure to prevent environmental contamination and to provide easier and faster reclamation once the extraction process is complete. The heat from the spent shale is taken back to improve process energy efficiency by passing cold gas through the pipe and then using it for preheating the adjacent capsule.

Operation

Red Leaf Resources controls oil shale leases covering approximately 17,000 acres (69Ã, km 2 ) at State of Utah School and Institutional Trust Lands in Seep Ridge, Utah. The area represents about 1.1 billion barrels (170 million cubic meters) of shale oil. The 2009 pilot project produced more than 300 barrels (48 m 3 ) of oil. In 2012, the Red Leaf Resources established a joint venture with Total SA to launch commercial-scale production of 9,800 barrels per day (1,560 m 3 /d), utilizing the EcoShale In-Capsule process above the shale leasehold infrastructure oil in Uintah Basin Utah. In December 2013, groundwater permits are issued for oil shale mines and oil shale factories. Red Leaf plans to produce 300,000 barrels (48,000 m 3 ) of oil by the end of 2015.

In 2011, Red Leaf Resources entered into a licensing agreement with TomCo Energy that allowed the latter to use EcoShale technology to develop the Holliday block in Utah. TomCo submitted an application for oil shale activities in January 2014.
