The Toyota Corolla (E140/E150) is the tenth generation of cars sold by Toyota under the Corolla signage. Introduced in late 2006, the series was replaced in 2012 in Japan, with the North American model being replaced by the end of 2013, and early 2014 launch for most other markets. Toyota Auris replaces the Corolla hatchback in Japan and Europe, but is still given the "Corolla" badge in Australia and New Zealand.
The dimensions for the Corolla sold in Japan are smaller than vehicles made for export so that they remain in line with Japanese government regulations regarding exterior dimensions and engine displacement. The new Corolla has now grown a little longer for the export model of 4,540 mm (178.7 inches) and wider 1,760 mm (69.3 inches) compared to the outgoing model.
The E140 chassis is based on the Toyota MC platform, with the E150 model coming from the New MC platform. In other words, the Japanese market E140 brings more MC platform than the previous E120. Versions sold in America, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East are based on this expanded edition of the platform, so they retain the E140 tagging. Models sold in Australia, Europe and South Africa use more sophisticated New MC basics, and are thus designated as E150.

Japanese
The tenth generation Corolla (E140) was released in Japan on October 10, 2006. This sedan is now known as Corolla Axio . The name Axio is made from the Greek word "axia", meaning "things with value". The station wagon retains the name Corolla Fielder . The dimensions for the Corolla sold in Japan are smaller than vehicles made for export so that they remain in line with Japanese government regulations regarding exterior dimensions and engine displacement. RunX was replaced by Toyota Auris and Spacio was stopped. The Corolla Rumion , a redesigned Scion xB, was introduced later.
Corolla Axio gets Toyota's latest smart parking assistance system. Option cost Ã, à ¥ 105,000, or US $ 879 at current exchange rate. The backup camera monitor is standard. Only on Japanese models, G-BOOK, subscription subsidized service, is offered as an option.
Japanese models include a rear view monitor that displays the image of the area behind the vehicle while reserving to reduce the driver's load when parking. Also, the optional Intelligent Parking Assist system supports steering operations when parallel parking and backing into the parking lot. Ultrasonic sensors mounted on the front of the vehicle detect other parked vehicles and, based on the results, estimate the physical dimensions of the vacant parking spaces and set the target parking positions.
Corolla Axio introduced the Pre-Crash Safety System using millimeter wave radar. When the millimeter wave radar detects a high risk of collision, the Pre-Crash Safety Belt improves initial control capability for passengers while the Pre-Crash Brake Support System slows down the vehicle speed to reduce collision speed and contribute to damage caused by collisions. The Radar Cruise Control System detects and monitors previous vehicles and lanes, maintaining a fixed distance according to the speed of the previous vehicle within a predetermined speed range.
In 2011, a total of 70,758 Corolla Axios were sold in Japan.

- Singapore
Singapore received the Corolla Altis with the 1.6 liter 3ZZ-FE and 1.8 liter 1ZZ-FE engines used in previous generations. Only automatic transmissions are available to meet Euro IV emission standards. In September 2010, the Altis facelifted model was introduced and it is similar to the Thai and Malaysian models utilizing the latest Dual VVT-i (1ZR-FE) engine for the 1.6 liter version and upgraded to standard Euro V emissions. Altis in Singapore is marketed in 1.6 and 1.8-liter versions like the previous model. Model 1.6 used to be the No.1 car of Singapore for several years in a row.
There is also a Japanese market model (including Axio sedan and Fielder train) available under parallel import status (parallel dealers buying vehicles abroad and making delivery, custom declarations, vehicle testing & own warranties) from smaller agencies than buying from dealers local. The available values ââare a standard X variant and a higher G variant. The Japanese market model, along with the Japanese market Camry and Wish, is widely used as a CNG-fitted cab.
- Sri Lanka
The Japanese version of the Japanese version of the Corolla sedan is sold in Sri Lanka. The petrol version is offered with a 3ZZ 1.6 liter engine while the diesel version offered has an old 2 liter 2 liter engine. His body shape is similar to the European Corolla.
- Thailand
Corolla Altis introduced in Thailand, which currently produces Corolla Altis, offered a total of four classes (J, E, G and V). Thailand is currently the only country that offers all the new Altis values, while the export market is only given a fraction of the Thai range in various combinations.
The 1.8-liter and 2.0-liter variants for the Corolla Altis facelift are equipped with a CVT-i Super gearbox while the 1.6-liter variant still uses the same 4-speed automatic gearbox. The value available for the Corolla Altis in Thailand varies from 1.6J base to the high 2.0V Navi variant.
North America
The North American Corolla (E140) has an exterior and interior design completely different from the Japanese Corolla Axio, and instead retains the Corolla Altis design that is marketed by ASEAN. The Corolla was unveiled on October 31, 2007, at the SEMA show in Las Vegas, commenced production in November 2007 and became available at USA dealerships in January 2008, as a 2009 model year. Only sedans are sold, though the second generation Corolla Matrix (usually called only " Matrix "), which shares the platform and the E140 engine, is considered a partner of the Corolla hatchback.
The new Corolla has been portrayed as a 7 / 8 Camry, also has a styling similarity to its sister, Yaris. It has been criticized for its slow rudder and handling, and for inexpensive interior materials which some regard as a step backward from the previous generation. Reviewer notes that the Corolla represents a gradual evolution over the previous iteration, without deviating too far from the formula as a simple yet reliable, fuel-efficient, simple and inexpensive mode of transportation.
As many as five trim grades (Standard, S, LE, XLE, and XRS) are offered in the US, Canada has 4 trims (CE, LE, Sport (or S), and XRS). LE and S have similar and very mechanically similar MSRPs, the main difference being the S spoilers, underskirts, and silver interior highlights. XRS also has spoilers and underskirts like the S, but it has a larger 2.4 L engine, rear disc brakes, sport-tuned suspension, and standard stability and traction control.
Bases (standard and CE) and S trim are available with a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission, while LE (unlike previous generations) and XLE are automatic only. The XRS class comes with a 2.4-liter 2AZ-FE I4 engine, the same is used in Camry, both for 158 hp (118 kW) and 162Ã, lb? Ft (220Ã, N? M) torque, with a choice of five-speed manual transmission or five-speed automatic. XRS takes 7.9 seconds to 60 mph (97 km/h) and 16.0 seconds for a quarter mile. All other trims have a new 1.8-liter 2ZR-FE 1.8-liter engine with 132 horsepower (98 kW) and 128 pound-feet (174Ã, N? M) of torque. The Corolla with a 1.8 liter engine has an EPA fuel economy rating of 27 mpg city/35 mpg highway, both lower than those achieved by previous generations. 2.4 liters rated at 22 mpg/30 mpg with automatic and 22 mpg/29 mpg with manual. All machines are certified by ULEV II. Toyota carries a 13.2 gal fuel tank from the previous model. To help improve fuel economy, the new Corolla uses electric drive units rather than belt-driven hydraulic pumps.
Corolla offers the convenience of technology such as additional audio jacks for MP3 players, enhanced JBL audio, tilt/telescopic steering, steering wheel-mounted controls, bag hooks and a hands-free Bluetooth mobile phone system. Traction control and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) are standard on top-of-the-line XRS, and available as an option on the US market LE and XLE models.
In 2009 (2010 US model year vehicles), the S model received the XRS Optitron gauge as standard equipment and the new 16-inch steel wheel cover design. The XLE model is now available with optional automatic climate control and metal layers on the steering wheel panel. All models now have Star Security Systems including Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRAC), Anti-lock Braking (ABS) Systems, Electronic Brake Power Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA) and Smart Stop Technology brakes as standard equipment.
In Mexico, the Corolla is offered in 3 trim levels: LE comes standard with 16-inch steel wheels and wheel cover and with manual and automatic transmission, the mid-range XLE now comes with 16-inch alloy wheels and wooden inserts in the interior and is available only with automatic transmission, and XRS with a 2AZ FE 2.4-liter I-2 engine. The Mexican-specific Corolla was built at the Cambridge plant in Ontario. Canada, Mexico, and the US are the only countries that receive Corollas from this assembly plant.
For MY 2011, XRS and XLE values ââhave been discontinued for the US market (XRS is still available in Canada). The revised Corolla features new front and rear exterior styling and interior design changes, including redesigned front grille, front and rear bumpers, new wheel design, rear chrome ornaments, rear combination lamps, and trunk lid. The interior adds metallic trim (LE and S grades), new fabrics and sport tilt/telescopic steering (S grade). The Corolla also features two new colors, Nautical Blue Metallic and Sandy Beach Metallic. New standard features for LE classes include cruise control, Remote Keyless Entry, two additional audio speakers, and intermittent variable windshield wipers with fog cycles. S grade adds standard cruise control, Remote Keyless Entry, 16-inch alloy wheels and rear-colored deck spoiler.
In 2011 (for the 2012 model year), Corolla received several feature enhancements, including a new standard audio system with USB port, Bluetooth, and steering audio control for US and Canadian LE trims. US Corolla L receives power windows, power door locks, and remote keyless entries.
The Corolla comes standard with dual front airbags, front and rear side curtain airbags and front-side torso airbags. ABS and active headrests are also standard. Starting in 2009 (2010 model year), Toyota Vehicle Stability Control and traction control are standard on all trims.
The redesigned Corolla frontal impact score decreases compared to previous models in the NHTSA test.
The Highway Security Insurance Agency rewards Corolla Top Safety Pick . Corolla scored Good overall in a collision impact test, with Good tagging in all six categories of measurable front impact. And Corolla received the overall score of Good others for a side collision impact test. Corolla almost scored perfectly in all nine categories of side impact tests measured but scored Average â ⬠for the pelvis/backseat protection of passengers. But the Corolla earned a good rating in the unusual side-effects/side impact structure category in the compact car segment.
The 2009 to 2010 model, the Toyota Corolla (especially US-made models with VIN # starting from "1NX" or "2T1") are subject to Toyota 2010 vehicle recall in connection with floor and gas pedal replacements.
On October 10, 2012, Toyota released a recall for the 2009 model Corolla and Matrix, along with 10 other models. Notice of withdrawal implies that the improperly lubricated driver's side panel power switch may create a "notch" or sticky impression, and improper aftermarket lubrication may pose a fire hazard. Improvements involve lubrication of the switch assembly with a special fluorine grease.
South America
The tenth generation Corolla was launched in Brazil on March 26, 2008, and in Argentina in April 2008. It was produced in Brazil with two engines (1.6 and 1.8 liter gasoline/petrol/ethanol engines in Brazil) and three models: the XLi base, XEi medium and higher SEG specifications.
The 2.0 VVTi Flex was added in March 2010. All versions are based on the Corolla Axio sedan, other versions are not available there.
- Bolivia
Toyota Corolla E150 Made in Japan sold in Bolivia by Toyota Bolivia. Gray imports allow sales in Bolivia USA. Spec from USA/Canada/Japan and Corolla Axio from Japan.
- Jamaica
The tenth generation Corolla went on sale in Jamaica in October 2007. It is available in 1.5L and 1.8L models. The 1.5L decomposes into two models; the first came without alloy wheels and fog lights and the other with alloy wheels and fog lamps. The 1.8L model however, comes standard with leather and sunroof interiors. All models have 4-wheel anti-lock disc brakes.
E150 wide-body
E150 version looks identical to E140 wide-body, but has a different base and more sophisticated based on New MC platform.
Africa
- South Africa
The Corolla generation was launched in South Africa in September 2007. Unlike in some countries, the Corolla mainly refers to the sedan and not the hatchback, which in South Africa is known as the Toyota Auris. This generation is lower and wider than its predecessor. Toyota South Africa achieved a new all-time sales record for South Africa's motorcycle industry in October 2007 with Corolla (including Auris) leading the vehicle sales chart.
The Toyota manufacturing plant in Durban provides export models of Corolla, Hilux, and Fortuner to Europe. The European spec Corolla made in Durban has been awarded a 5 star rating of EURO NCAP (applicable to all models in range with knee airbags).
This car is available in the following models: Diesel 2.0 (Exclusive, Advanced); 1.8 Gasoline (Exclusive, Exclusive Auto, Advanced); 1.6 Gasoline (Proficient, Professional); and 1.4 Gasoline (Proficient, Professional).
Since early June 2014 Corolla has been relaunched as Corolla Quest, which is a scaled-down model with fewer features to target first class B-level buyers. The Quest has been released with a 1.6 liter engine in both a 6-speed manual transmission and a 5-speed automatic transmission.
Australasia
- Australia
The new Corolla was introduced to the Australian market on May 18, 2007. Available in sedan and hatchback models, with more safety features and higher levels of luxury. The new 1.8-liter 2ZR-FE Dual VVT-i - with variable valve timing for intake and exhaust camshafts - will be the only engine available for the Australian model, promising better fuel savings than ever before, also regaining power output 100 kW. This figure decreased when the old 1.8 liter four-cylinder model engine dropped to 93 kW of power and 161 Nm of torque (from 171 Nm) at the end of 2005 to meet Euro IV 2006 emission requirements. The new 6-speed manual gearbox is standard, with optional automatic 4-speed, despite 5-speed speculation like the new Honda Civic, a 5 speed robotized option in European Auris, or CVT is available in Japanese models.
All Australian Corolla models run on the E150 platform, unlike North American and Asian versions. Therefore, certain chassis parts can not be exchanged.
The new Corolla is available in 5 trim levels for hatching (Ascent, Ascent sport, Conquest, Levin SX and Levin ZR) and 4 for sedans (Ascent, Ascent sport, Conquest and Ultima - automatic only), with the Corolla wagon suspended in Australia. The Levin ZR and Ultima classes have HID xenon headlamps, rain wipers, smart entry and start system and automatic climate control. The level of safety equipment has also been enhanced with ABS brakes and double airbag standards across range, while the sides, curtains, driver's knee airbag and optional traction stability and traction control on Ascent and Levin SX models and standard on Conquest, Levin ZR and Ultima models from December Production 2008. Other changes from December 2008 production include a revised 6-speed manual transmission across all models except the only automated Ultima sedan that has improved gear ratios and intelligent entry activation adoption on front passenger and rear doors on the Levin ZR model. Although the new hatch is named Auris in most of the world markets, the Corolla name is maintained for the Australian market.
Tested at 9.7 seconds to 100 km/h for manual models, more than half a second slower than its predecessor. This may be because of its weight, weighs 1,300 kg, which is oddly more than a Civic like never before which is usually lighter. Automatic also has a very wide ratio due to the lack of the fifth gear, providing slow acceleration, obviously not maximizing the potential of the engine. Toyota Corolla received a 4 star ANCAP security rating for passenger safety and a 3 star rating for pedestrian safety.
- New Zealand
Like Australia, all models are marketed under the Corolla signboard. This range is similar to the Australian range with the same engine and drivetrain, however, the model is set as the base of GX and the higher GLX specification. What distinguishes the range of New Zealand from around the world is the addition of the Corolla Fielder cart, which is otherwise seen only in the Japanese market. With the very popular station wagon in New Zealand, the demand of the previous model is enough to justify it. New Zealand is the only export market for carts. Marketed as Corolla GX Wagon with 1NZ-FE engine. While the hatch and sedan features a 1.8-liter 2ZR-FE Dual VVT-i, the wagon features a 1.5 liter Japanese market, 4-cylinder, 16-valve, DOHC VVT-i engine. It is determined lower than the hatch and saloon GX models because the carts are aimed at fleet markets aware of price and price accordingly. Hatchback acquired two diesel motors in June 2008, with the D4-D 1.4 and 2.0 engines joining the local range, albeit with just a manual transmission. Diesel cars are a European specification model built in Japan, version 1.4 has motors shipped from Europe to be placed in New Zealand specification cars.
Toyota is widely criticized by the automotive press for selling new Corollas in Australia and New Zealand without Electronic Stability Control, which could reduce the likelihood of fatal accidents by up to 55%. Electronic Stability Control has been available in the American version of Corolla for several years. Attention stability control is partially overcome with a Corolla diesel that offers ESC as standard. Facelift in 2010 saw the addition of this device on all models of the Japanese spec Wagon bar.
Europe
In Ireland, the E150 Corolla series was launched in December 2006 for sale in January 2007. It made it one of the first countries in the world to accept this model. The saloon version is available along with Auris (and Auris van) with 1.4-liter (71-kW) 1.4ZH-BHP petrol engine or D-4D 1.4-liter 90-bhp diesel engine in Terra, Strata, Luna and Sol trim level (real not available). The European model was built in Turkey and Japan. The saloon version is more popular in Ireland than the newly launched Auris.
However, British buyers only offer Auris, although Toyota does offer the E150 in Belgium, Luxembourg and Spain.
