Ioco , short for I mperial O il Co , is the area of ââPort Moody, British Columbia. It is located on the north coast of Burrard Inlet. Ioco was originally a townsite for Imperial oil refineries.
The refinery began operating in January 1915. In 1917, there were 200 people living in the hovel town, which had a school and 2 grocery stores. Companies want to buy land from the Federal government to build townsite, but because the land into military reserves they reject. Instead they buy land from private sellers. The land was cleared and the construction of the house began in 1920. A total of 83 houses were built. Townsite also has a grocery store, village hall, tennis courts and green lawns, and 2 churches.
By 2015, the Ioco site has been sold to Vancouver developers.
