The first Car Wash Mister Store opened in 1969 in Houston, Texas. In 1996, Mister Car Wash was established as a company that is intended to expand rapidly by obtaining other car wash locations across the country. This expansion began with the acquisition of 3 car washes in Boise, Idaho in 1997. In 1998, Mister Car Wash of Houston was acquired by Car Wash Partners, adding 11 car washes and 6 lubricants to their portfolio. Rapid expansion continued into the late 90s and early 2000s when Mister Car Wash obtained 10 car washes in Minnesota, Texas and Iowa after appointing Ron Peterson as CEO.
During the early 2000s, the company acquired additional locations in Idaho, Washington and Minnesota. In 2003, the company launched the Unlimited Wash Club; a loyalty program that allows members to enjoy as many car-washes as they wish at the Mister Car Wash location.
In 2007, Mister Car Wash was acquired by ONCAP; a private equity firm, which helped add 21 locations within a span of several months, making Mister Car Wash the second largest car leasing chain in the United States. Expanding rapidly, Mister Car Wash acquired 51 record-breaking locations and became the largest car wash network in the United States. In 2013, Mister Car Wash gained 13 additional locations and current CEO John Lai was appointed for his position.
Leonard Green & amp; Partners L.P. obtained Mister in 2014, and the company moved its headquarters to downtown Tucson, Arizona where it continues to expand its operations. In 2016, the company purchased additional office space in Tucson to expand its headquarters after acquiring 46 additional locations. By 2017, Mister operates more than 250 locations in 21 states.
