Two-stroke oil (also referred to as two-cycle oil , 2-turn oil , 2T oil , < b> 2-stroke oil or petroil ) is a special type of motor oil intended for use in a two-step crank compression engine.
Unlike the four-stroke engine, the closed crankcase except for the ventilation system, the two-stroke engine uses the crankcase as part of the induction tract, and therefore, the oil must be mixed with gasoline to be distributed throughout the machine for lubrication. The resulting mixture is referred to as petroil. This oil is finally burned along with the fuel as a total-loss polishing system. This results in increased exhaust emissions, sometimes with excessive smoke and/or distinctive odors.
The base oil stock can be in the form of petroleum, castor oil, synthetic or synthetic semi oil and mixed (or measured by injection) with gasoline/gasoline at oil-to-oil fuel ratio from 16: 1 to as low as 100: 1 To avoid emissions high and oily deposits on spark plugs, two modern strokes, especially for small machines such as garden tools and saws, may now demand synthetic oil and can suffer from oiling problems otherwise.
Manufacturers of original machine equipment (OEM) introduced a pre-injection system (sometimes known as "auto-lube") to the machine to operate from a ratio of 32: 1 to 100: 1. The oil must meet or exceed the following general specifications: TC-W3TM , NMMA, [API] TC, JASO FC, ISO-L-EGC.
Comparing the usual lubricating oil with two-stroke oil, the relevant difference is that the two-step oil must have a much lower ash content. This is necessary to minimize deposits that tend to form if ash is present in the burned oil in the engine's combustion chamber. In addition, non-2T-specific oils may turn into chewing gum in a matter of days if mixed with gasoline and not consumed immediately. Another important factor is that the 4-step engine has different requirements for 'stickiness' rather than 2-stroke. Since the 1980s various types of two-stroke oils have been developed for special uses such as two-stroke outboard motors, two-stroke premix oils, as well as more two-stroke auto-motor lubricants. As a rule of thumb, most commercially available oil containers will be printed on labels compatible with 'Autolube' or injector pumps. The bottles tend to have the consistency of dish soap if shaken. The more viscous oil can not be reliably passed through the injection system, although the premix machine can run on both types.
"Racing" oil or caster based offers excellent lubrication - at the expense of premature coking. For an average moped/scooter/trail rider, he will not collect any significant performance improvements and will require frequent disassembly.
