YTL Corporation Berhad (MYX: 4677, TYO: 1773) is a Malaysian infrastructure conglomerate, founded in 1955 by Yeoh Tiong Lay, after whom the group name is. The company has grown from a small construction company to an international utility company that gets more than 70 percent of its revenue from outside its home country.

YTL Corporation (YTL Corp) was founded by Tan Sri Dato 'Seri (Dr.) Tiong Lay in 1955. His eldest son, Tan Sri Dato' Seri (Dr.) Francis became Managing Director of YTL Corp. in 1988. Under Yeoh's stewardship, The YTL Group grew from one registered entity in 1985 to a group of five listed companies. Today, YTL Corp. is one of Bursa Malaysia's largest companies and together with its registered subsidiaries have a combined Market Capitalization of approximately RM30.8 billion (US $ 10.15 billion). YTL Group has an average annual combined growth rate of 55% over the 15 years to 2010. YTL Power International

YTL Power International Berhad (YTLPI) is a utility subsidiary of YTL Corp. YTLPI owns and operates some 5,500 MW of gas, oil and coal-fired power plants in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. YTLPI is the first IPP (independent power producer) in Malaysia with two combined gas cycle power plants combined with a combined capacity of 1,212 MW. Both factories are located in Paka, Terengganu, and Pasir Gudang, Johor. This license was granted after a major power outage in Malaysia in the mid-1990s, for 21 years and ended in September 2015.

YTLPI owns 35% stake in PT Java Power, Indonesia's second largest IPP, which has a 1.220MW coal-fired power plant located at the Paiton Power Plant Complex in East Java, Indonesia. YTLPI through its wholly owned subsidiary, PowerSeraya Limited in Singapore, is the second largest power generating company in terms of installed capacity, with a total license capacity of 3100 MW, and is also an active trader of oil products which has about 1 million m3 of storage capacity.

YTLPI owns a 100% stake in Wessex Water Services Limited, a water and sewage service company serving the area in southwest England. YTLPI owns one-third of shares in ElectraNet S.A. which owns and operates an electrical transmission network in South Australia.

YTLPI also owns a 60% interest in YTL Communications, approved by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to operate the 2.3 GHz WiMAX wireless broadband network in Malaysia known as YES, launching its service on November 19, 2010.

YTL Power International Berhad (YTLPI) signed on 13 December 2010 an agreement in Amman, where YTLPI acquired a 30% stake in Estonian oil company Eesti Energia, a Jordanian oil shale project. Under the agreement, Eesti Energia and its Yordanianya Near East Investment partner, together with YTL Power will develop an oil mill with an output of around 38,000 barrels per day (bpd) and a 900-mega-shale oil-fired power plant.

YTL Cement Bhd is a manufacturer of ready made cement and concrete products in Malaysia with an interest in Jurong Cement Limited in Singapore and a 100% stake in Zhejiang Lin'an Jin Yuan Cement Co. Ltd. in China.

YTL Construction

Acquisitions

ElectraNet Pty Ltd

In 2000, YTL Power has acquired 33.5% of Australia ElectraNet Pty Ltd for some RM1.9 billion. ElectraNet owns and operates an electrical transmission network in South Australia, under a 200-year power transmission agreement.

Wessex Water

In May 2002, YTL Power International acquired 100% of Wessex Water shares worth Ã, £ 544.5 million in cash and assumed Ã, Â £ 695 million in debt.
