The Daihatsu Copen is a 2-door roadster with retractable aluminum hardtop built by the Japanese car company Daihatsu. It debuted at the 1999 Tokyo Motor Show, as the Daihatsu Copen concept. The second generation model debuted as Kopen (Future Included) at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show.

First generation (2002-2012)
Copen was originally designed with a 660 cc turbocharged engine to meet Japanese car regulation kei. However, since this machine does not meet environmental emission standards in some other countries, Copen is equipped with a stronger 1.3-L non-turbo engine in these markets.
At the Frankfurt Motor Show 2005, Daihatsu revealed two new trim levels from Copen, 1.3l and 'ZZ'.
Copen has been featured on the British Top Gear show where James May is trying to find the best convertible car. The contestants are Mercedes-Benz CLK, Audi A4, CitroÃÆ'án C3 Pluriel, Volkswagen New Beetle, and Copen. James likes Copen, but he has one small problem: he feels "playful".
On January 13, 2011, Daihatsu announced that it will withdraw Copen from the European market effective January 31, 2013 due to the ongoing Japanese Yen power. Then on April 2, 2012, Daihatsu announced that Copen production will stop in August 2012 with the last 500 cars limited to the 10th anniversary edition.

Second Second generation (2014-present)
Less than a year after the car's termination, Daihatsu announces Copen will return to production with a new model. At the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show, Daihatsu launched two Copen concept cars called Kopen , with the tag line "Future Included". The name "Kopen" is a combination of kei class car, and "open" for the convertible roadster. Spelling changed from "k" to "c" to "conversion". New model production was announced on June 19, 2014.
Copen has been restored to be sharper than its predecessor with a new monocoque chassis structure called the D-Frame. The structure allows the owners to choose the interior design and exterior of the car according to their preferences. The body panels are made of 13 separate resin components, 11 of which can be replaced to modify the design and color. Copen is also equipped with a new suspension system, a new three-cylinder turbo engine with 660cc capacity with DVVT, better sound exhaust system, and weight reduction. In Japan, the models sold are Copen XPlay, Copen Robe and special S type for Copen Robe.
In 2015, Daihatsu released the Copen Cero, which has a shape close to the first generation model.
