toilet brush is a tool for cleaning the toilet. The modern plastic version was invented in 1932 by William C. Schopp of Huntington Park, California, USA and later patented in 1933 by The Addis Brush Company.

Generally a toilet brush is used with toilet cleaners or bleach. Toilet brush can be used to clean the top of the toilet, around the bowl. However, it can not be used to wipe very far into the U-bend toilet and should not be used to clean the toilet seat.

In many cultures it is considered impolite to clear biological debris without using toilet cleaning products, as this can leave residue on its feathers. Instead, others consider it impolite to clear the biological debris immediately using a toilet brush.

A typical toilet brush consists of a rough hard end, usually with a round shape and a long handle. Today's toilet brushes are generally made of plastic, but were originally made of wood with pig hair or from horse, ox, squirrel and badger hair. Brushes are usually stored in a stand, but in some cases are completely hidden inside the tube.

Electric toilet brush is slightly different from ordinary toilet brush. The feathers are tied to the rotor of a motor that works similarly to an electric toothbrush. The power supply is installed without metal contact through electromagnetic induction.

In recent years, there has been a general change in design with a new emphasis on ergonomically designed brushes. Further design improvements have included innovative holders that are locked around the hairy end, thus preventing the release of odors, germs and other unpleasant.

Further development of traditional toilet brushes focuses on the risk of germ incubation in the brush holder. The patented toilet brush introduces an anti-bacterial fluid reservoir, allowing the brush to be immersed and cleaned after each use.

Recent developments

In recent years many new products aimed at rediscovering traditional toilet brushes have emerged into the market.

  • LooBlade is a toilet brush with an 8-knife silicone head and a hydrophobic nature that spills water and dries quickly. Claimed to kill 99.9% of germs during and after cleaning. It was discovered by Garry Stewart.
  • Loogun is an alternative to a toilet brush. This spray sprayed strong water that cleaned stubborn marks above and below the water line. The device never touches the toilet, so the device remains hygienic and safe for children.
  • The Handi Sani is a toilet brush that cleans away. This works by installing the Handi Sani holder brush to the side of the tank with one small tube that flows into the tank to take advantage of the clean water, and another hose flows into the toilet bowl for proper drying. The brush is placed inside Handi Sani so when the toilet is rinsed, the attachment is filled with clean water while draining dirty water into the toilet.
