The Fiat Siena is a supermini produced by Italian manufacturer Fiat since 1996. It is a four-door version of the Fiat Palio sedan, a supermini car designed specifically for developing countries. It was introduced for the first time in South America, and is produced in various countries around the world. Then, in 2002, a similar car based on the same platform was developed for the European market, Fiat Albea. It replaces Siena in this European market, like Poland, where the original model was previously sold.

In 2012, Fiat released the second generation of Siena, called Fiat Grand Siena .

Siena is one of the most popular drinking spots in Brazil, selling over 800,000 units during its 14-year existence. In Italy the car was not marketed, after the failure of its predecessor Fiat Duna.

First generation (1996-2016)

1996-2000

Launched in 1996, in Brazil, as a four-door Fiat Palio sedan, code-named Project 178, Siena (pictured above) was created for an important sales hatchback model benchmark in developing countries. This range is made from Fiasa and Fire gasoline engines between 1.0Ã, L and 1.6Ã, L.

2001-2003

In 2001, this model had its first facelift. The new design was created by Italian design guru, Giorgetto Giugiaro. Facelift includes new front and rear design, and new interior. Also, the new engine comes as a 16-valve Fire Machine 1.0Ã, L 70 HP and 1.2Ã, L 82 HP. In Turkey and China the Siena redesign was introduced with a semi-automatic SpeedGear gearbox. With this new design, the little car was finally able to fight its place in the market, became successful in sales. Fiat has considered changing its name to Palio Saloon, due to a lack of interest in Siena before, and solid sales from its biggest competitor, Chevrolet Prisma. This idea is then discarded. Up to this point, the Siena Fiat is the only model that the Palio family has had that has not been well received by the public. Therefore, Fiat paid special attention to the design of this model in particular, after the rear completely redesigned.

2004-2007

The second facelift was presented in 2004. The designer was again Giorgetto Giugiaro. It has a new front, rear and interior design. The 2004 Siena is the first Brazilian four-door sedan with a compact four airbags (two in front and two side airbags), auto-dimming rearview mirror, rain sensor and garden aids. However, this accessory is very expensive for the Brazilian market and most other South American markets, so it is generally not found in end use vehicles. The series of engines in South America of 1.3 Fire 16-valve, 1.4 Fire 8-valve new with 80 HP (same as the latest Fiat Punto, and 1.8 GM Powertrain 8-valve with 112 PS (82 kW) with Chevrolet Corsa). The Siena EL is sold with engines of 1.0 and 1.4, both 8-valve units.

In Brazil, the top model has been completed by the latest Flexfuel version 1.8 Powertrain 8-valve - gasoline and/or alcohol - reaches 112 hp (84 kW) with gasoline and 114 hp (85 kW) with alcohol at 5,500 rpm. In Mexico sold as Palio Sedan , first with Torque engine 1.616V and then with 1.8 GM Powertrain with 110 PS (81 kW).

In Europe, the new model features both front and interior designs in 2004 and back designs of 2001. The Albea, European version of Siena, also acquires a 1.3 multijet diesel engine, the second generation common-rail turbocharged engine, developing 70 bhp (52 kW).

2008-present

In 2008, Fiat launched the Siena facelift. The fourth version of this model has a unique front design, which for the first time is different from the current Palio.

The new Siena follows the new Fiat family's face, with dual headlights and some chrome details on the grille, and around fog lights. The rear lights are sharp and integrated with the trunk and look inspired by the Alfa Romeo models, such as the 156 and 159.

Siena is new in production in Betim (Brazil) and CÃÆ'³rdoba (Argentina), with 1.0 8v, 1.4 8v, 1.4 8 v TetraFuel, and 1.8 8 v engine, flexible for Brazil market (able to use gasoline and ethanol). The TetraFuel is the first multifuel car to run as a flexi fuel in pure gasoline, or E25, or E100; or run as bi-fuel with natural gas (CNG). In 2011, the sporty version - Siena Sporting 1.6R 16v, equipped with Dualogic Fiat automatic gearbox - is also in production, although Fiat announced that this variant will not be offered again starting 2012. All New Siena EL 1.0, EL 1.4 and many ELX circulated in Brazil, in fact, was produced in Argentina, because the Betim factory still produces only the more expensive versions.

Currently produced in Brazil (Betim Plant) and Argentina (Ferreyra). In the past it was also produced in Turkey (Bursa), Poland (Tychy) (1997-2001) , India (Pune) (1999-2004) , South Africa (Rosslyn ), China (Nanjing), Iran (Saveh), Morocco (Casablanca) and Vietnam.
