The Hyundai Theta (G4KC) is a family of four-cylinder petrol engine cars. Hyundai Motor Company's third all-aluminum engine debuted in the fourth generation Hyundai Sonata sedan (NF), which was unveiled in August 2004 in South Korea. Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama (HMMA) built Theta II machine shop in Montgomery's car yard, Alabama.

Global Machine Alliance
The Global Machine Alliance is a joint venture between Chrysler, Mitsubishi Motors, and Hyundai Motor Company to develop a 4-cylinder engine line together. The initial design of engine block and cylinder head is handled by Hyundai. However, each manufacturer configures their initial design variants differently based on their needs. In 2009, Chrysler bought Mitsubishi and Hyundai shares in a joint venture; however, every company retains the right to build the machine.

Theta
The first version of Theta Engine has two variants, 2.0L and 2.4L.
2.0L - G4KA
Version 2.0L is an inline 4-cylinder engine that carries 86 mm holes and strokes and a compression ratio of 10.5: 1; the engine makes 143 hp (107 kW; 145 PS) at 6,000 rpm and 140 lb of torque? ft (190Ã, N? m) at 4,000 rpm. It uses a timing chain instead of a belt, and the dry weight of the machine is 134 kg (295 pounds).
2.4L - G4KC
The 2.4L version is an inline 4-cylinder engine that carries a bore of 88.0 mm, a stroke of 97.0 mm and a compression ratio of 10.3: 1; the engine makes 162 hp (121 kW; 164 PS) at 5,800 rpm and 164 lb? ft (222Ã, N? m) of torque at 4,250 rpm.
Theta II
2.0L - G4KD
The machine is equipped with dual stainless steel double (DOHC) double-hull camshafts with metal-powder lobes, rooftop burning chambers, and an infinite bucket tappet on the cylinder head. BorgWarner Morse TEC provides a complete time system that uses the company's silent timing chain. Continuously variable valve timing (CVVT) works on the intake side.
The aluminum alloy machine block, which is formed using a high pressure die-cast method, has a unique tasset-type cushioned axle module provided by Metaldyne with a two-stage oil pump installed in it. At the bottom, the beam is reinforced by a ladder frame. Other important features include sinter-split rectified linking rods manufactured by Sinteron and stainless steel exhaust manifolds.
EMS (machine management software) software Theta EMS-II from Siemens VDO and PCM 32-bit (Powertrain Control Module) calculates the amount of air entering by using a contamination-proof MAF (mass flow air) type sensor.
The MPI version of Theta 2.0L engine has a compression ratio of 10.5: 1, and generates 163 hp (122 kW; 165 PS) at 6,200 rpm and 146Ã, lb? Ft (198Ã, N? M) torque at 4,600 rpm and is available in the Middle East.
The MPI version of Theta 2.4L engine has a compression ratio of 10.3: 1, and produces 176 hp (131 kW; 178 PS) at 6,000 rpm and 168Ã, lb? Ft (228Ã, N? M) torque at 4,000 rpm and available in Middle East and Europe.

2.0T GDI turbo
Theta engine is turbocharged for use in Sonata 2.0T and Genesis Coupe.
In the 2009-2012 Genesis coupe turbo, it generates 210 hp (213 PS) @ 6,000 rpm at 87 octane (AKI) gasoline, and 223 hp (226 PS) at 93 AKI. Torque remains the same at 223 Ã, Â £ (302Ã, N? M) @ 2000 rpm. In the 2013-2014 model, the engine is upgraded, the new 2.0T now produces 274 hp (204 kW, 278 PS) and 275 lbÃ, Â · ft (373 NÃ,m) of torque due to the larger turbo Theta Block used is very similar to Mitsubishi Evolution X 4B11T, as core components such as pistons and rods are said to be moving freely between them, however, the two machines are not identical. The 4B11T is a semi-enclosed deck block with larger oil and cooling parts, where as Theta is an open deck block.
The Turbo used is the Mitsubishi TD04 model.
2.0L GDI turbo di (2011-2014 Sonata) developed 274 hp (278 PS) and 269 lb? Ft (365Ã, N? M) torque. Fuel economy is rated at 22mpg (10.7L/100KM) in the city and 34mpg (6.92L/100KM) on the highway. It comes exclusively with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
2.0L GDI turbo in 2019 Hyundai Veloster N and i30 N develop 275 hp (279 PS) and 260Ã, lb? Ft (353Ã, N? M) torque. Fuel economy is rated at mpg (L/100KM) in city and mpg (L/KM) on the highway. It comes exclusively with a 6-speed manual transmission.
2.0L GDI turbo in 2019 Genesis G70 develops 255Ã, hp (259 PS) and 260Ã, lb? Ft (353Ã, N? M) torque. Fuel economy is rated at mpg (L/100KM) in city and mpg (L/KM) on the highway. It comes with a 6-speed manual transmission in the Sport trim model.
Crate engines
In 2013-11-05, Hyundai announced the creation of a new crate machine program at the SEMA Show 2013 in Las Vegas, which initially included a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The crate machine program begins in December 2013.
