John McCririck (born April 17, 1940) is a British television horse race scholar.

Born in Surbiton, Surrey, McCririck was educated at Elizabeth College, Guernsey, Victoria College, Jersey, and Harrow School, where his fellow students later joined fellow racing journalist Julian Wilson. He left with three O-Levels, after also running a book on cross-country races.

Careers

After failing to enter the diplomatic service, he had been a waiter at the Dorchester hotel. During an era when off-field bets were illegal in England, he worked for an illegal bookmaker, before becoming a dealer himself, which he admits that he failed. He later became a tic-tac man.

He began his career in journalism at The Sporting Life, where he won two wins at the British Press Awards for his campaign journalism; he was fired in 1984. He joined the Daily Star, but was later dismissed by the newspaper after allegations that he owed him; he later succeeded in suing the paper in the labor courts.

Having previously been a sub-editor of results on the BBC's "Grandstand", from 1981 he joined horse racing ITV Sport; he previously appeared in the debate on the fox hunts on the children's ITV Saturday Banana program in 1978. During 1984 and 1985, horse races moved from ITV to Channel 4 as Channel 4 Racing >, where his role is expanded and he reports from the betting ring. His flamboyant, flamboyant outfit of big deerstalker hats, sideburns, and brightly colored suits and trousers, coupled with large cigars, became a recognizable personal style.

In October 2012 it was announced by Channel 4 that McCririck would not be included in the team that presented the race from January 2013, which McCririck charged at ageism, took Channel 4 to the labor court. On Nov. 13, the court ruled against McCririck: "The unanimous decision of the Tribunal is that the Petitioners' claim of direct age discrimination failed." It goes on: "All the evidence is that Mr. McCririck's pantomime persona, as shown on his celebrity television appearance and personality while performing on Channel 4 Racing, along with his fanatical and manly chauvinist views, is clearly unacceptable to the wider potential.. " The panel was told by witnesses from television stations and IMG (production companies) that he was dropped because he was "offensive" and "disgusting".

Other media appearances

McCririck appeared in 1991 Bullseye Special Christmas, won the grand prize for his choice of charity. She also appeared on the Celebrity Poker Club series, reaching Grand Finale from series one, won by Sir Clive Sinclair. McCririck also appears during the coverage of the ITV Snooker as well in the betting capacity.

In 1997, McCririck was deceived by two separate episodes of the Brass Eye spoof TV show.

In January 2005, she was a contestant in the third series Celebrity Big Brother. She has competed on the Weakest Link twice: once as a solo contestant in 2005 Reality TV Special, and on the B Celebrity Duos Special list with his wife, Jenny.

In 2006 he appeared in the Drama Episode at the Still Game event as he was on Channel 4 telling about Winston Ingram riding a horse.

In September 2007, she appeared on The Alan Titchmarsh Show and was at odds with Ingrid Tarrant in discussing her marriage to Chris Tarrant. She claims that she is not good in bed and this is the cause of marriage disloyalty. After his comment aired, he was forced out of the show by host Alan Titchmarsh.

McCririck appeared in an episode of Hell's Kitchen (season 3, episode 8) in which Head Chef Marco Pierre White refused to serve him after McCririck told him that his consommÃÆ'Â © he was 'greasy', despite being told that it contains foie gras and truffle oil. White commented after the sequence: "I know John, he's awkward, he has no taste. All you have to do is look at how he's dressed."

McCririck was a housemate at Ultimate Big Brother in August 2010.

McCririck also appeared in the 1989 episode of You Bet! , during Bruce Forsyth's tenure as host. His loss when his challenge failed was to milk a live cow in the studio. Prior to his challenge, he tried to teach Forsyth all the symbols involved in horse racing bets, which led Forsyth to quip, "We're going to run out of recordings!"

On June 26, 2015, in the 16th Serie Big Brother , it was announced that McCririck would return to Big Brother, take part at Big Brother's Hotel from Hell the following week, where he would stay home and a former housemate will join him on Monday 29 June.

Personal life

McCririck refers to his wife Jenny as "The Booby", and has been accused of frequent hatred against women. In 2006, the couple took part in the Swap Wife with Edwina Currie and her husband. McCririck is also a well-known supporter of Newcastle United F.C. and Coventry City F.C.
